STRESS QUESTION – DO VACATIONS OR HOLIDAYS SOLVE YOUR STRESS?

STRESS LEVELS CAN BE CHANGED…
Taking a vacation or holiday is seen as a great way to help you with your stress problems. It is certainly an important part of your stress management and stress relief plan. However, going on a vacation or holiday will not eliminate all the stress in your life. Therefore, the answer to this stress question is actually both TRUE and FALSE.
REMOVING YOURSELF FROM THE STRESS SOURCES
A holiday can certainly reduce the amount of stress you feel. This is especially true when you have removed yourself from the source of your stress, such as your workplace. You are released from the pressure, strain and tension related to that stress source. You can feel totally relaxed.
THE RETURN TO THE STRESS SOURCE
However, when your holiday has ended and you return to the source of your stress, the workplace for example – what happens? Your stress levels rise quickly again. Within a short amount of time you are back to feeling as pressured, anxious and as stressed out as you did before you went on holidays. You realize that your holiday was a temporary cure for your stress.
STRESS MANAGEMENT AND STRESS RELIEF STRATEGIES
You need to find more permanent stress solutions beyond taking a holiday. A holiday is great but you need to develop stress management and stress relief strategies to deal with the stressful experiences, such as in your workplace, that are causing you stress.
ONGOING STRESS IN YOUR LIFE
A holiday or vacation should be considered as an opportunity to take a break, a rest and a respite from the stress in your life. It can help you to reduce your stress levels, regain your composure and recharge your energy levels. But if you have been experiencing situations that have been causing you ongoing and longer term stress then it will require more than a holiday or vacation to deal with these stressful situations in your life.
